Two ways lead onto Bogue Banks, and six entries describe what a reader meets on the way. The bridge and the causeway, and how they work day to day, are the first of them. At the eastern end the island narrows to an inlet, and Fort Macon at the eastern end of Bogue Banks is the landmark the county reads by.
